Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent remarks at the seventh Central Symposium on Tibet Work indicate that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is doubling down on its hardline approach in the region, which evolved gradually after the 2008 protests.
The strategy for the next few years that Xi outlined entails a mix of persuasion, development, connectivity, indoctrination and coercion. This will not only have serious implications for ordinary Tibetans but will also impinge on the Sino-Indian boundary question, particularly in the context of China’s claims on Arunachal Pradesh.

CaptionPlus: the app for brands to turn pictures into stories Key points:
According to international social media marketing firm Socialbakers, posts with explanatory text overlay generated 41 percent more interactions on average over the course of 2017. This was one of the underlying rationale behind CaptionPlus — one of the winners of the government’s AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge.
In 2018, three Delhi University students, Rahul Maurya, Anurag Kumar, and Jitendra Yadav found this an opportunity to help content creators. The trio launched CaptionPlus in beta in August 2018 with zero monetary investment after initial market research and studying profiles of thousands of people.
In two years since the beta launch as a simple repository of captions and hashtags, the app has now integrated an AI engine, which can show users contextual captions and hashtags to the images. This is similar to the tags or emoji options one can get while doing the SEO optimisation or drafting any social media message. (Your Story, 30 August 2020)News Link

PM Modi urges startups to ‘team up for toys’ for India to become global toy hub
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called upon startups and entrepreneurs to “team up for toys”, as he noted India’s miniscule share in the global toy market of over Rs 7 lakh crore and asserted that the country has talent and ability to become a hub for the industry.
In his monthly ‘Mann ki Baat’ address, he said it was time for startups to be “vocal for local toys” and also asked them to develop computer games in and based on India, citing the nation’s rich heritage and traditions that can drive innovations in the toy and gaming industry.
The prime minister had also recently chaired a meeting aimed at boosting India’s share in the global toy trade in which China is one of the largest manufacturers and exporters.
He also urged people to raise dogs of Indian breeds at their homes if they consider keeping a pet dog. Indian breed dogs are being inducted by security forces as well, he said.
He said the area for the sowing of kharif crops increased by seven per cent compared to last year, paddy by nearly 10 per cent, pulses close to five per cent, oilseeds around 13 per cent and cotton by about three per cent.
He said September will be observed as “Nutrition Month” and added that the need for having a good nutrition is being converted into a “mass movement”, especially in villages.
Trai to reform licensing regime to fuel investments, innovation in telecom sector
India’s telecom regulator is aggressively working on reforming the licensing regime and would soon release a consultation paper to base its views on promoting innovation and attracting new investments, as a part of ease of doing business in the sector.
The sector watchdog has previously recommended a slew of measures to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) such as the reduction in levies, and the upcoming initiative is aimed to further improve the industry’s health in line with the national policy unveiled in 2018.
With this reduction, the applicable uniform rate of licence fee would become 6%, from the present 8% of AGR, according to Trai, while the 3% of license fee (LF) that directly accrues to the government would not change.

Knee Jerk Reaction is a Neurological Disorder
I am witnessing enormous righteousness from ignorant Right Wing people after the 2G verdict. They are cursing Modi. Some are insinuating a DMK alliance. Some even connected non-existent dots to his courtesy call to Karunanidhi as a striking-deal meeting. Some are asking what is stopping Modi government from prosecuting opposition leaders and some have already decided to punish him in 2019.
I started this article saying, “Knee Jerk Reaction is a Neurological Disorder”. Let me elaborate. The whole 2G case hearing and major proceedings were over before 2014 May. The case was conducted by Supreme Court appointed Amicus Curiae overseeing the CBI investigation. In essence, all the important proceedings were over before Modi came to power. This government was handicapped by the fact that, it was not allowed by the Courts to interfere in any way with the investigations.
When the Supreme Court pronounced the 2G contracts were corrupt and cancelled all the allotments, it is clear there was corruption. So where was the problem ? The problem was with arbitrary criminal conspiracy charge sheets filed by CBI. The courts could not agree with the criminal conspiracy theory and that is how the charges were dismissed because no evidence to substantiate the charges were produced. Was it deliberate ? That is anybody’s guess.
Now, many right wingers are cribbing, Modi has shown reluctance to fight corruption. Reluctance? You want Modi to go and beat these people up, drag them to court by the scruff of the collar, produce evidence in the court and and win court cases followed by slow motion walk ? That happens only in movies. In real life, it is India. That India, where there is an ecosystem painstakingly cultivated by the Congress. The ecosystem isn’t easy to byepass. Our judiciary is built brick by brick by Congress. You can’t change the system just overnight. There are too many checks that prevent the executive interference in judiciary while unfortunately the judiciary can do anything.
Modi is running a BJP government with 90% Congress people in government machinery. He can’t sack them all. Reforms in a country as vast as India will take at least 10 to 15 years. If we aren’t ready to give that time and the support to Modi, if we start suspecting and abusing Modi like many idiotic right wingers are doing, we deserve to be ruled by Congress forever !
