  1. Fintech startup Uni has raised $18.5 million in one of the largest seed rounds. The funding was led by Lightspeed India Partners and Accel India.
  2. The business model of Uni is new-age credit cards for the digital generation. The purpose of the fund raise is to build a team and once the product is launched, it will be used for marketing and working capital.
  3. The startup claims that there are just 34 million credit card users having 58 million credit cards whereas there are more than 100 million Indians today who pay digitally and electronically. Focused on filling this gap, Uni will aim to target the ecommerce and internet-savvy generation in India who are looking at leading aspirational lifestyles.

  • Startup’s App And Debit Card Teaches Teens The Finance Lessons That Schools Don’t

  1. How does it work?: If you are a parent who wishes to help children learn to manage finance, you can download the application on play store or app store. Once it is downloaded, by entering a valid PAN card number you can create an account for yourself and your child. An existing bank account (of the parent) is linked with the application to deposit the pocket money.After paying a registration fee of Rs 499 a card is issued and delivered via post within a few days.On the app, there are different logins for the parent and child so that children can set their own goals and view goals assigned to them. On the parents’ version, there is a view of daily expenditure made by the child, the amount they have saved, and set finance goals for them.

  1. Founded in 2013 by Shveta Raina, Talerang offers customised career training to students and professionals with one aim: creating a work-ready India. It aims to upskill 20 million students by 2020.
  2. The startup began with training only college students but now has programmes for candidates from the age of 13 to 30. It went from training 100 students in the first year to over 100,000 trained through tie-ups with various colleges, universities, corporates and non-profits in about six years.
  3. Talerang’s copyrighted curriculum was researched as an independent project at Harvard Business School. Its training methodology integrates Harvard cases, proprietary assessments, interaction with guest speakers, industry exposure, and personal mentoring for holistic professional development.

  • How this gaming startup wants to change the game with a league for desi sports

Key points:

  1. Mumbai-based online gaming startup OKIE Gaming is working in line with PM Narendra Modi’s appeal to create games inspired by Indian culture. It is launching games such as Dahi Handi and Vallam Kali in a digital format, and readying a Desi Sports League.
  2. Launched by Mumbai-based OKIE Ventures in February 2020, homegrown gaming platform OKIE Gaming aims to tap into the evolving market with indigenous digital games. Founded in 2011, OKIE Ventures’ business portfolio includes manufacturing, gaming, and healthcare.
  3. The startup is in line with India’s aatmanirbhar plans. In August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said India should tap the huge potential in the digital gaming arena by developing games that are inspired from its culture and folk tales.
  4. As of now, the company offers RMG options such as Smart Housie, Smart Number Quiz, Ludo, Cricket, Rummy, and Smart Words, and aims to offer more games every month. The app with all these games is available to download directly from OKIE’s website as Google does not allow real money games to be on play store.

  2. अभिषेक को खेती कार्यों में उनके उल्लेखनीय योगदान के लिए 2014 में बिहार कृषि विश्वविद्यालय, सबौर से सर्वश्रेष्ठ किसान का अवार्ड मिला था। इसके अलावा 2016 में उन्हें प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने कृषि रत्न पुरस्कार से भी सम्मानित किया था।

  1. 19 वर्षीय इंद्रजीत ग्रेजुएशन के छात्र हैं लेकिन इसके साथ ही, उनकी एक और पहचान है और वह है एक आविष्कारक-उद्यमी की। बचपन से ही मशीनों को समझने और बनाने के शौक़ीन रहे इंद्रजीत ने अब तक कई ऐसे आविष्कार किए हैं जो जनसाधारण के लिए मददगार हैं। पहले तो उन्होंने पहाड़ी क्षेत्रों में बच्चों की पैदल आने-जाने की समस्या को समझते हुए सोलर साइकिल बनाई और फिर गाँव में चिरौंजी के किसानों की मदद के लिए पोर्टेबल चिरोंजी डेकोर्टिकेटर मशीन भी बनाई है।
  2. पुरानी साइकिल और सेकंड हैंड चीज़ें इस्तेमाल कर बनी उनकी सोलर साइकिल में उस समय लगभग तीन हज़ार रूपये की लागत आयी थी। उन्होंने साइकिल को इस तरह मॉडिफाइड किया कि यह सोलर और इलेक्ट्रिक दोनों तरीके से चल सके। सोलर पैनल के साथ यह साइकिल 30 किमी प्रतिघंटा के हिसाब से चलती है और बतौर इलेक्ट्रिक, एक चार्जिंग में यह साइकिल (Solar cum Electric Bicycle ) लगभग 60 किमी तक चल सकती है।
  3. इंस्पायर अवॉर्ड जीतने के बाद उन्हें जापान के Sakura Exchange Program in Science में भी जाने का मौका मिला। हालाँकि, इतने सम्मान मिलने के बाद भी उन्हें कहीं से कोई आर्थिक मदद नहीं मिल पाई। न ही उनके इनोवेशन को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए और न ही उनकी पढ़ाई के लिए।
  4. इंद्रजीत का दूसरा इनोवेशन, चिरौंजी उगाने वाले किसानों के लिए है। वह बताते हैं कि किसानों को चिरौंजी का फल हाथों से निकालना पड़ता है क्योंकि इसके लिए जो भी मशीन है, वह काफी महंगी है। कोई भी ऐसी मशीन है नहीं जो कम लागत वाली और छोटे किसानों के लिए हो। किसानों को इस प्रक्रिया में काफी वक़्त लगता है और न ही उन्हें अच्छे फल मिल पाते हैं। इसलिए उन्होंने यह मशीन बनाई ताकि किसानों की मदद हो सके।
  5. हाल ही में उन्होंने गुजरात के अपने एक दोस्त के साथ मिलकर मल्टी-पर्पज ड्रोन बनाया है जिससे किसी भी जगह को सैनीटाइज किया जा सकता है और कहीं भी दवा पहुँचाई जा सकती है। वह कहते हैं कि उन्हें बस ऐसे नवाचार करने हैं जो आम से आम लोगों के काम आएं। उनके पास हुनर है, बस थोड़ी आर्थिक मदद जुटानी है, जिस पर वह काम कर रहे हैं। (The Better India, 6 October 2020) News Link

  1. With practices like waste management, driving an electric car, growing organic food in her front yard and harnessing rainwater and sun, Soumya and her family in Dehradun have switched to a sustainable lifestyle that is not only a relief to her pocket but also the environment.
  2. Instead of constructing a new house or shifting into a flat, Soumya and her husband, Dr Raman Kumar decided to restore a 60-year-old house. In the process, they vowed to not send construction waste to the dump yard. All the debris was reused to lay the foundation of other buildings.
  3. The underground rainwater harvesting tank in the home can store up to 20,000 litres of rainwater – that suffices the needs of 6-7 people. The captured rainwater is filtered and then used for potable and non-potable needs. The family has stopped taking water from the administration completely. The surplus water recharges groundwater tables.

  1. मार्च तक लॉन् हो सकती है कोरोना वैक्सीन, तीन में से दो टीके हो जाएंगे तैयार!

  1. केंद्र सरकार ने उम्‍मीद जताई है कि अगले साल मार्च तक कोरोना वायरस के दो टीके उपलब्‍ध हो जाएंगे। फिलहाल तीन वैक्‍सीन का देश में ट्रायल हो रहा है।
  2. सरकार को लगता है कि मार्च तक तक फेज-3 ट्रायल पूरा हो जाएगा और वैक्‍सीन को एक्‍सपर्ट्स से क्लियरेंस भी मिल जाएगा। पिछले हफ्ते तीन बड़े वैक्‍सीन निर्माताओं- सीरम इंस्टिट्यूट ऑफ इंडिया, भारत बायोटेक और जायडस कैडिला के साथ सरकार ने बैठक की है। उनसे वैक्‍सीन की उपलब्‍धता से लेकर उसके रेगुलेटरी अप्रूवल, डिस्‍ट्रीब्‍यूशन की चुनौतियों पर चर्चा हुई। केंद्रीय स्‍वास्‍थ्‍य मंत्री हर्षवर्धन ने रविवार को कहा है कि सरकार जुलाई 2021 तक 40-50 करोड़ डोज हासिल करने की योजना बना रही है।

  1. रिलायंस लाइफ साइंसेज (Reliance Life Sciences) कोरोना की वैक्सीन विकसित कर रही है। माना जा रहा है कि अगले साल पहली तिमाही में इसका इंसानों पर ट्रायल शुरू हो सकता है। 6 भारतीय कंपनियां पहले से ही कोरोना की वैक्सीन बनाने के काम में जुटी हैं।
  2. रिलायंस ग्रुप इसके लिए अपने फार्मास्यूटिकल्स, रीटेल और टेक बिजनस का फायदा उठाना चाहता है। इसके लिए कंपनी ने व्यापक योजना बनाई है। इसमें टेस्ट किट डेवलप करने से लेकर, टेस्टिंग लैब चलाना, वैक्सीन विकसित करना, बनाना और वितरण करना भी शामिल है। रिलायंस कोविड-19 के लिए जो वैक्सीन विकसित कर रही है, वह रिकंबिनेंट प्रोटीन बेस्ड वैक्सीन है। माना जा रहा है कि अगले साल पहली तिमाही में इसका इंसानों पर ट्रायल शुरू हो सकता है।
  3. इस बारे में रिलायंस लाइफ साइंसेज के प्रेजिडेंट और सीईओ केवी सुब्रमण्यम ने टाइम्स ऑफ इंडिया से कहा कि छोटे जानवरों पर प्री-क्लीनिकल ट्रायल इन हाउस होगा। इसमें पार्टनर रिसर्च ऑर्गनाइजेशन भी शामिल होंगे। इंसानी ट्रायल कंपनी के इन हाउस रिसर्च सर्विसेज ऑर्गनाइजेशन करेगी।

  • 300 Doctors Offering Free Telemedicine Service To J&K Residents

Key points:

  1. A group of 300 doctors from across the world have come together to set up a free telemedicine consultation service in Jammu and Kashmir to serve non-COVID-19 patients who have suffered as the focus of the existing healthcare infrastructure has been on dealing with the pandemic.
  2. Ehsaas International and Dard Welfare Society, in association with Kashmir Health Care Support Group, have initiated this healthcare consultative service, Hakim Mohammad Ilyas, general secretary of Ehsaas International, told PTI.
  3. “Considering the adverse impact the COVID-19 pandemic has put on the existing health infrastructure of J&K, we decided to launch ‘Dial a Doctor’ programme wherein people would get access to quality health consultations and services without leaving the four walls of their houses,”  Hakim Mohammad Ilyas, general secretary of Ehsaas International said.
  4. “This was conceptualised keeping in view that hospitals are high risk places for contraction of COVID-19 and many medical ailments can be managed by telephonic consultations thus avoiding visit of patients to hospitals,”  Hakim Mohammad Ilyas, general secretary of Ehsaas International said.

To ensure timely disposal of queries, a control room managed by doctors and paramedical staff has been set up with a toll free number 1800 889 2729 backed with 10 lines at the back end to avoid any inconvenience to the patients, Hakim Mohammad Ilyas, general secretary of Ehsaas International said.“In the last two months, more than 2,000 consultations have been provided to the people free of cost,” Hakim Mohammad Ilyas, general secretary of Ehsaas International added.

  • आईआईआईएम जम्मू ने विकसित की कोरोना की सस्ती टेस्टिंग किट, मंजूरी के लिए आईसीएमआर को भेजी

Key points:

  1. कोरोना संक्रमण की जांच अब जल्दी, सटीक और पहले से मौजूद तकनीक के मुकाबले ज्यादा सस्ती होगी। इंडियन इंस्टीट्यूट आफ इंटिग्रेटिव मेडिसिन (आईआईआईएम) जम्मू ने पीसीआर तकनीक के विकल्प के तौर पर आरटी-लैंप (रिवर्स ट्रांसक्रिप्टेस-लूप मीडिएटेड आइसोथर्मल एंप्लीकेशन) टेस्ट किट विकसित की है। 
  2. मंजूरी के लिए टेस्ट किट इंडियन काउंसिल फार मेडिकल रिसर्च को भेज दी गई है। आईआईआईएम जम्मू के निदेशक डॉ. डी श्रीनिवास ने कहा कि इस तकनीक में आरटी-पीसीआर टेस्टिंग किट की तुलना में संवेदनशील मशीन की जरूरत नहीं है। इसी वजह से टेस्टिंग किट सस्ती होगी। हालांकि अभी तक इसका मूल्य तय नहीं किया गया है।

  1. DRDO successfully flight tests hypersonic technology vehicle

Key points:

  1. DRDO on Monday successfully flight tested a Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV), which is an unmanned scramjet vehicle with the ability to travel at six times the speed of sound.
  2. The test was conducted at 11.03 am from Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Launch Complex at Wheeler Island, off the coast of Odisha. 
  3. The scramjets are a variant of air breathing jet engines and have the ability to handle airflows of speeds much higher than the speed of sound. Hypersonic speeds are five times (or more) higher than the speed of sound.
  4. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, “The DRDO has, today, successfully tested the Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle using the indigenously developed scramjet propulsion system. With this success, all critical technologies are now established to progress to the next phase.”
  5. The special project of the DRDO consisted of contributions from Armament and Combat Engineering Cluster, the two facilities from Pune which played a role in the development were the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and the Research & Development Establishment (Engineers).

  1. भारत ने हाइपरसोनिक टेक्नोलॉजी डेमोन्स्ट्रेटर (एचएसटीडीवी) देश में तैयार करने में कामयाबी हासिल की है। इसे डीआरडीओ ने तैयार किया है। 
  2. इससे पहले अमेरिका, रूस और चीन भी यह तकनीक तैयार कर चुके हैं।
  3. ओडिशा के बालासोर स्थित एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम रेंज में सोमवार को इसका परीक्षण सफल रहा। 
  4. सरकारी सूत्रों के मुताबिक, भारत अब अगले पांच साल में हाइपरसोनिक मिसाइल तैयार कर सकेगा। हाइपसोनिक मिसाइलें एक सेकंड में 2 किमी तक वार कर सकती हैं। 
  5. इनकी रफ्तार ध्वनि की रफ्तार से 6 गुना ज्यादा होती है। भारत में तैयार होने वाली हाइपरसोनिक मिसाइलें देश में तैयार की गई स्क्रैमजेट प्रपुल्सन सिस्टम से लैस होंगी।

Key points:

  1. The TN Government has enhanced penalties for violation of the mandatory safety protocols. It comes in the wake of the opening of almost all economic activities and intra-state travel
  2. The Unlock-4 removes almost all the restrictions in Tamil Nadu to help the public to resume their economic activities. However, it also necessitates ensuring compliance of the safety protocols and the standard operating procedures so that the pandemic situation does not go out of hands.
  3. Keeping this in mind, the penalty for not wearing a mask while coming out has been enhanced to two hundred rupees.
  4. A government order issued yesterday says non-observance of social distancing, spitting in public places and failure to follow guidelines in containment zones by individuals will attract a fine of 500 rupees.
  5. Violations by commercial establishments and entry of vehicles in containment zones will attract a penalty of five thousand rupees. The increased penalty is aimed at ensuring public safety, say the authorities, as lowering the bar on safety precautions would perhaps be self-deceptive.

  5. Sero-prevalence of antibodies found in age groups of less than 18 was 34.7 per cent, in 18-50 years 28.5 per cent, and 31.2 per cent in 50 years and above.

The Meghalaya Tourism department will soon come out with a ‘Check into Nature App’ for online booking of tickets and contactless entry into tourist spots, three of which, including Ward’s Lake and Elephant Falls in the state capital and Nehru Park at Umiam (Barapani) were re-opened on a trial basis for local visitors from Tuesday.
  2. “Online ticketing and pre-booking of entry tickets is encouraged to avoid crowding at ticket counters while in the initial phase manual tickets can be issued to strictly enforce social distancing and to not exceed the capacity as defined for each tourist destination,” Commissioner and Secretary, Tourism Dr. Vijay Kumar, said.
  3. “Based on the carrying capacity, tickets may be issued for defined timeslots (x number of visitors for a defined timeslot for example 1 hour). The duration of opening of the tourist destination should be published and defined,” it said.
  4. Further, the SOP stated that all tourists including drivers shall be strictly screened using thermal gun/scanner by designated trained person at entry by holding the scanner 3 to 15 cm away from the person’s forehead and anybody having fever (equal to more than 37.50C/99.50F), cold, cough, sore throat, difficulty in breathing shall not be allowed entry and should immediately report to the concerned authorities. They should be politely asked to return, the SOP added.

  • Shimla, Sep 1 (UNI) HP Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday directed Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and Chief Medical Officers to ensure that doctors and other para medical staff involved in treating of COVID patients use proper protection, while attending to the patients.
  • The CM, through video conferencing from Shimla, said that asymptomatic patients should strictly be kept in home isolation.
  • Better quarantine facilities must also be provided for doctors and other para medical staff. He said that industrial units must be asked to create their own quarantine facilities with a minimum 10 percent of total strength of their employees. He said that small industrial units must be encouraged to create such facilities by pooling in their resources.
