India’s farm exports rise 23.24% in March-June 2020 despite pandemic
Key points:

  1. Agricultural exports rose 23% to Rs 25,553 crore in March-June this year despite the disruption caused by the pandemic.
  2. “Agricultural exports as a percentage of India’s agricultural GDP has increased from 9.4% in 2017-18 to 9.9% in 2018-19. While the agricultural imports as a percentage of India’s agricultural GDP has declined from 5.7% to 4.9% indicating exportable surplus and decreased dependence on import of agricultural products in India,” said a senior agriculture ministry official.
  3. The agriculture ministry has created product specific Export Promotion Forums promote eight agricultural and allied products like Grapes, Mango, Banana, Onion, Rice, Nutri-Cereals, Pomegranate and Floriculture
  4. “Forums will be in active touch with the producers, exporters and other relevant stakeholders of respective commodities and hear their problems, and facilitate, support and provide solutions to them. They will regularly study the market for respective commodities on a global basis,” the official said.

  1. कोवैक्सिन का तीसरे चरण का ट्रायल कल तक शुरू होगा, बाकी 2 वैक्सीन के ट्रायल पहले और दूसरे चरण में

Key points:

  1. भारत में कोरोना की 3 वैक्सीन बनाई जा रही हैं। इनमें से एक (कोवैक्सिन) का थर्ड फेज का ट्रायल कल तक शुरू हो जाएगा। बाकी दो वैक्सीन में से एक का ट्रायल फेज-1 और दूसरे का फेज-2 में है। स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय और नीति आयोग ने मंगलवार को प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में यह जानकारी दी।
  2. बीते 24 घंटे में 8 लाख 99 हजार 864 टेस्ट किए गए। यह एक दिन में सबसे ज्यादा टेस्टिंग है। इन्हें जल्द ही बढ़ाकर 10 लाख किया जाएगा।
  3. देश में अब हर दिन औसतन 55 हजार मरीज ठीक हो रहे हैं।
  4. रोज 1.92%, जबकि हर हफ्ते 1.94% लोगों की मौत हो रही है। यानी दोनों आंकड़े 2% से कम हैं।
  5. संक्रमित होने की दर 10% से घटकर 7.2% पर आ गई है।
  6. एक्टिव केस, कुल केसों का महज 24% हैं।
  7. अब तक करीब 20 लाख लोग ठीक हो चुके हैं। यह आंकड़ा एक्टिव केसों से 2.93 गुना ज्यादा है।

  1. People’s Bank of China buys into ICICI Bank amid ‘Boycott China’ movement

Key points:

  1. The People’s Bank of China has now made an investment in ICICI Bank. The Chinese bank has emerged as one of the investors in ICICI Bank’s Rs 15,000 crore capital raising exercise which ended last week.
  2. The Chinese bank signed a cheque of Rs 15 crore in the private bank under the qualified institutional placement.
  3. People’s Bank of China was amongst the 357 institutional investors which included domestic mutual funds, insurance companies and global institutions that subscribed to the issue. The prominent investors among them were Government of Singapore, Morgan Investment and Societe Generale.

  1. India Life Sciences Fund invests ₹100 cr in Inventia Healthcare

Key points:

  1. Adding to the spree of private equity investments in the Indian pharmaceutical sector, India Life Sciences Fund III has invested ₹100 crore in Inventia Healthcare Ltd.
  2. This is the second private equity fund to invest in Inventia Healthcare. PE firm Jacob Ballas had invested ₹90 crore in Inventia Healthcare between 2008 and 2009.
  3. “This infusion of funds will be used as growth capital for our pharma and nutraceutical business, and further strengthen our balance sheet through deleveraging and accelerate our goal of becoming a debt-free company,” said Janak Shah, chairman and managing director of Inventia.

  1. प्रयागराज के पीएचडी स्कॉलर ने गंगा की मिट्टी से बनाई बिजली, राष्ट्रपति कोविंद करेंगे सम्मानित

Key points:

  1. संगम नगरी प्रयागराज के रहने वाले एक इंजीनियरिंग शोधार्थी जितेंद्र प्रसाद ने गंगा नदी की मिट्टी से बिजली उत्पादन की तकनीकी विकसित की है।
  2. जितेंद्र को इसके लिए राष्ट्रपति द्वारा गांधीवादी यंग टेक्नोलॉजिकल इनोवेशन (ज्ञाति) अवार्ड से सम्मानित किया जाएगा। पिछले चार साल की कड़ी मेहनत के बाद जितेंद्र को उपलब्धि हासिल हुई है।
  3. जितेंद्र ने बताया कि, पहले 12 वोल्ट की बैटरी को चार्ज किया और फिर इसे 230 वोट के एसी वोल्टेज में बदलकर बिजली के बल्ब को नौ घंटे तक जलाया।
  4. इस प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार की सेलेक्शन कमेटी में पांच पद्मश्री और दो पद्मविभूषण प्राप्त वैज्ञानिक एवं अन्य आईआईटी के प्रोफेसर थे, जिन्होंने जितेंद्र प्रसाद का साक्षात्कार लिया।
  5. भारत के 31 राष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान में सिर्फ एमएनएनआईटी इलाहाबाद के जितेंद्र प्रसाद को यह अवार्ड मिला है।

  1. South Korean EV giant Edison Motors set to invest Rs 5,000 crore in UP

Key points:

  1. South Korean company Edison Motors is looking to invest between Rs 3,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore in Uttar Pradesh to set up an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in the coming months. The company is scouting for land near Lucknow and the Yamuna Expressway to set up the plant.
  2. Managing director of the company, YK Lee, led a delegation to meet Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday to discuss the possibility of investing in the state.
  3. Lee said that work will be rolled out in three phases. In the first phase, the company is looking to invest Rs 500-700 crore, Rs 1,000-1,500 crore in the second phase and another Rs 2,000-Rs 3,000 in the third phase. \
  4. Accordingly, it is likely that 2,000 people will be employed in the first phase, 3,000 in the second phase and about 5,000 in the third phase.

The MD added that over 90% of the parts for the electric vehicles will be manufactured in UP. Not only will this help the MSME sector but would help to generate employment in the state.

  1. Coralogix to invest $30 mn in India to meet data localisation norms

Key points:

  1. Israeli tech company Coralogix on Thursday announced a $30 million investment for expanding into India, driven primarily by the data localisation compliance requirements for its customers.
  2. The company, provider of machine learning-powered log analytics and monitoring solutions, said it will provide customers with its first local Amazon Web Services (AWS) server support through its Mumbai region and data storage capabilities.
  3. Its Chief Executive and co-founder Ariel Assaraf said the $30-million investment will be done over a five-year period.

Key points:

  1. China’s ByteDance is in early talks with Reliance Industries Ltd for an investment in its video-based app TikTok‘s business in India, TechCrunch reported on Thursday, citing sources.
  2. The two companies began conversations late last month and have not reached a deal yet, according to the report.
  3. Microsoft Corp has been in talks to acquire the U.S. operations of the video-sharing app.

They currently offer five Indian languages: Hindi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Kannada, and Gujarati. 

With approximately 100,000 downloads across 120 countries in a year,  Language Curry uniquely equips its learners with contextual, conversational language learning where the user not only learns the ‘what’ or ‘how’ of speaking Indian languages, but also receives short cultural capsules that explain the ‘why’ behind it.

The startup on Thursday, August 13 announced that it has raised $92,000 in angel funding led by Rebalance Angel Community, Chandigarh Angel Network, and a clutch of angel investors.

Key points:

  1. Chennai-based Vinveli makes indigenous UAVs or drones for Special Forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs, such as the National Security Guard and the Central Reserve Police Force, and the Ministry of Defence.
  2. According to Gokul, the cost of the drones developed by Vinveli range between $10,000 – for the basic agriculture or imaging payloads, and $100,000 and above – for advanced sensor packages and navigation options such as swarming.
  3. During the Iowa Startup Accelerator Programme in 2014, Vinveli had received seed funding of $25,000.

India announces USD 500 million assistance for major connectivity project in Maldives
Key points:

India will fund the implementation of a major connectivity project in Maldives through a USD 400 million line of credit and USD 100 million grant, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Thursday.

The 6.7 km Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP) will be the largest civilian infrastructure project in Maldives, connecting Male with three neighbouring islands – Villingili, Gulhifahu and Thilafushi, officials said.

He also announced the start of regular cargo ferry service between India and Maldives to boost trade and commerce between the two countries.
India is also extending financial support for construction of a port in Gulhifahu.

“Once completed, this landmark project will streamline connectivity between the four islands, thereby boosting economic activity, generating employment and promoting holistic urban development in the Male region,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

Zydus Cadila launches India’s cheapest remdesivir version at Rs 2,800 per 100 mg vial
Key points:

Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Thursday said it has launched a generic version of Remdesivir, used for treating patients suffering from severe COVID-19 symptoms, at Rs 2,800 per 100 mg vial in the Indian market

Branded as Remdac, the drug is the most economical Remdesivir brand in India, Zydus Cadila said in a regulatory filing.

The active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for the drug has been developed and manufactured at the group’s API manufacturing facilities in Gujarat, Zydus Cadila said.
Zydus Cadila is the fifth company to have launched its generic version of Remdesivir in India. Hetero Labs, Cipla Mylan and Jubilant Life Sciences have already launched their generic versions of antiviral drug Remdesivir in the country.
