Role of RSS in Hyderabad Liberation Struggle

Sri Bhandaru Sadasivarao, Sangh swayamsevak, advocate and author who studied the Hyderabad Liberation Movement clarified further that Dr.Hedgewar stated thus, “This movement should not remain confined to one or two organizations, it has to take the shape and form of a Hindu mass movement. I will ensure that Swayamsevaks participate in the Satyagraha and work towards raising the national consciousness among the people, even if the participation is not in Sangh’s name”.

Arya Samaj leaders asked Dr.Hedgewar, “How many people will you send for Satyagraha?”

Dr. Hedgewar asked “How many do you need?”

Arya Samaj leaders said, “500 persons”..

Dr. Hedgewar replied, “Definitely, they will come and participate in the Satyagraha”.

Dr. Hedgewar’s words translated into action. More than 2000 Swayamsevaks came in various batches from Vidarbha, Marathwada, Rajasthan, Madhya Bharat and other regions, offered Satyagraha which was led by the Arya Samaj, many of them were imprisoned, many went through huge tribulations, some became martyred in the cause of freedom. Dr Hedgewar himself bid farewell to Bhayyaji Dane; Vaman Hedgewar too participated in the Satyagraha. Acharya Dharmendra who arrived from Rajasthan, and offered Satygraha was imprisoned later.
