While the greatest creations of India are more basic and crucial (consciousness studies etc) than mentioned in this article, fact remains that there is an appalingly scarce contribution to knowledge from Indian institutes/scholars in post-colonial India. For all the advertising done about the past, there is hardly any effort going into strong education and knowledge in India. There are several research institutes in India today, most of which primarily bother about engineering and technology. Quality is lacking at all levels – basic education, advanced studies and research. And that is because education in India is now merely a career-building tool and has little to do with knowledge and human development. Unfortunately, there are very few initiatives to correct the situation and more unfortunately little responsibility shown by the country’s leadership.
