  1. India, Bangladesh traders demand trial run of vessels through protocol route on Gomati river this month

Key points:

  1. Traders of India and Bangladesh have demanded a trial run of vessels on the Gomati river this month to operationalise the Indo-Bangla protocol route between Sonamura in Tripura’s Sipahijala district and Daudkandi in the neighbouring country, officials said.
  2. A high-level team of officials of the Bangladesh Shipping Ministry surveyed the riverine protocol route on Tuesday, Sonamura sub-divisional magistrate Subrata Majumder said.
  3. The Tripura government had launched a floating jetty on the Gomati river as part of the Indo-Bangla international inland waterways connectivity project on July 4 this year.

  1. India is sending more relief and humanitarian materials, including medicines and foodstuff, to Lebanon after a massive explosion last week devastated parts of Beirut, killing more than 160 people and injuring 6,000 others.
  2. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador T S Tirumurti offered deep condolences on behalf of the Government and people of India to Lebanon on “this terrible human tragedy”.

  1. Air India shuts down five offices in Europe amid COVID-19 crisis

Key points:

  1. Air India on Wednesday announced that it will shut down its five offices in five countries across Europe due to zero flight operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline will shut its offices in–Vienna (Austria), Milan (Italy), Madrid (Spain), Copenhagen (Denmark) and Stockholm (Sweden).
  2. There are no Air India flights under Vande Bharat Mission there and regularly scheduled flights are also not operating currently.
