- A top Indian Army General is all set to visit the United States of America to lay the foundation for a strengthened relationship between the armies of the two countries. Lt Gen SK Saini, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, will be in the US from October 17 to 20 with an aim to enhance military cooperation between the two armies.
- Crucially, the Indian Army Vice Chief will witness first-hand training and equipment capabilities of the US Army at the US Army Pacific Command.
- “The Vice Chief of the Army Staff will visit the US Army Pacific Command (USARPRAC), the Army component of Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), and exchange ideas extensively with the military leadership (there) apart from witnessing training and equipment capabilities of the US Army,” an official release stated on Friday.

- Days ahead of the planned 2+2 dialogue between the foreign and defence ministers of India and the US, the Indian Army’s vice-chief is set to visit the Hawaii-based Indo-Pacific Command to boost military cooperation between the two sides.
- Lt Gen SK Saini, the vice-chief of the army staff, will visit the US during October 17-20, people familiar with developments said on condition of anonymity. The 2+2 dialogue is expected to be held in New Delhi during October 26-27, with secretary of state Mike Pompeo and defence secretary Mark Esper set to visit India for the talks

- CBI, US authorities crackdown on 5 companies in India for defrauding senior US citizens
Key points:
- Five companies operating in multiple Indian cities by an American citizen, allegedly involved in defrauding hundreds of American senior citizens through technical-support fraud scheme, have been ordered by US’s federal court to stop their activities.
- The US Department of Justice has also appreciated the efforts taken by India’s federal agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), for its investigation in connection with the case.
- According to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the scheme run by the American citizen involved contacting senior US consumers via internet pop-up messages that falsely appeared to be security alerts from Microsoft or another well-known company.

- ताइवान की राष्ट्रपति साई इंग-वेन को भारतीय भोजन खाना पसंद है। उन्होंने गुरुवार को खुद ट्वीट कर इसकी जानकारी दी। उन्होंने ट्वीट किया- ताइवान लकी है कि यहां पर कई भारतीय रेस्टोरेंट है। ताइवान के लोग उन्हें पसंद करते हैं। मैं हमेशा चना मसाला और नान खाना पसंद करती हूं। वहीं चाय मुझे भारत की मेरी यात्रा की याद दिलाता है। भारत एक वाइब्रेंट और कलरफुल देश है। उन्होंने ट्विटर यूजर्स से अपना पसंदीदा भारतीय भोजन बताने के लिए भी कहा।
- अपनी ट्वीट के साथ वेन ने एक भारतीय थाली की तस्वीर भी पोस्ट की। इसमें चावल, नान, सलाद और कुछ दूसरे भारतीय व्यंजन नजर आ रहे थे। पास में ही एक स्टील की प्याली में चाय भी रखी थी। वेन पहले भी कुछ मौकों पर भारत की तारीफ कर चुकी हैं।

- पोखरा काठमांडू और विराटनगर तक पहुंची रेल, भारत–नेपाल संबंधों के लिए साबित होगी मील का पत्थरKey points:
- तिब्बत के रास्ते नेपाल तक रेललाइन बिछाने की चीन की योजना के पीछे उसकी मंशा नेपाल में परिवहन ढांचा को विकसित करने के साथ ही अपना तंत्र मजबूत करना भी है। नेपाल के अनेक आर्थिक विशेषज्ञ यह जानना चाहते हैं कि नेपाल आखिर चीन को क्या निर्यात करेगा? क्या नेपाल सरकार ने यह अध्ययन कराया है कि कोलकाता पोर्ट से आने वाली वस्तुओं और चीन से तिब्बत होकर सड़क और भविष्य के रेल से आने वाली वस्तुओं के दाम एक जैसे रह पाएंगे।
- आशंका तो पूरी यही है कि चीन के रास्ते आने वाला सामान महंगा ही होगा। अगर चीन केवल व्यापारिक उद्देश्यों की पूर्ति के लिए भारतीय सीमा तक रेल चाहता है, तो उसे नाथुला दर्रा वाले मार्ग पर विचार करना चाहिए। यहां केवल 300 किमी की दूरी पूरी कर जलपाईगुड़ी से तिब्बत सीमा तक पहुंचा जा सकता है। यहां की ऊंचाई भी चार हजार मीटर है, जहां से रेल मार्ग का निर्माण करना केरुंग काठमांडू से कहीं ज्यादा आसान है और इस पथ का नेपाल को भी लाभ होगा।
- वर्तमान में नेपाल के तीव्र गति विकास के लिए नेपाल भारत आपसी संबंधों के लिए और भारत के खुद के सामरिक आर्थिक हितों के लिए नेपाल को रेलवे के विकास में सहयोग करना चाहिए। जयनगर जनकपुर बर्दीवास रूट को पथलैया तक विस्तार देना और इसे रक्सौल बीरगंज हेठौड़ा काठमांडू के बनने वाले रूट से जोड़ देना चाहिए। ईटहरी को पथलैया से और धनगढ़ी को काठगोदाम से यदि जोड़ दिया जाए तो नेपाल के तराई के रास्ते यह दिल्ली और पूवरेत्तर भारत की दूरी को काफी हद तक कम कर सकता है। विराटनगर को धरान और ईटहरी को काकरभिट्टा से ऐसे ही उत्तर प्रदेश की सीमा नौतनवा से भैरहवा और वहां से पोखरा या फिर रूपईडीहा नेपालगंज रोड होते नेपालगंज तक ट्रेन जा सकती है।
- बिहार सीमा के बथनाहा जोगबनी होते हुए विराटनगर तक रेलवे सेवा को विस्तार दिया जा रहा है। पोखरा काठमांडू और विराटनगर तक पहुंची रेल नेपाल भारत संबंधों के लिए मील का पत्थर होगी। यदि अकेले नेपाल का ईस्ट वेस्ट रेलवे प्रोजेक्ट ही केवल भारत के माध्यम से पूर्ण हो जाए तो मेची से महाकाली नदी तक विस्तृत नेपाल में सफर सस्ता और सुगम ही नहीं होगा, बल्कि इससे यात्र अवधि भी बहुत कम हो जाएगी। इतना ही नहीं, यदि इस दिशा में योजनाबद्ध तरीके से कार्य हो तो उत्तर पश्चिमी भारतीय राज्यों से असम की ओर जाने का न केवल वैकल्पिक मार्ग उपलब्ध होगा, बल्कि इससे भारत नेपाल संबंधों को भी फिर से नई ऊंचाई पर ले जाया जा सकता है।
