Pune, November 19 Family members and the lawyer of Lt Col Prasad Shirkant Purohit have produced documents to show that the Army man was “instrumental in killing several dreaded terrorists”.

He said the documents clearly show that Purohit led Army troops in several anti-terrorist operations in sensitive areas of and the north-eastern India.
They showed a letter by the 15th Battalion of Marathi Light Infantry in January 2001 that says, “Major Prasad Purohit personally led a patrol comprising five other ranks that encountered a group of approximately five to six terrorists at the Line of Control (LoC) attempting to infiltrate into own area. In the intense firefight, he led his team to eliminate the terrorists after having foiled their attempt to infiltrate. His action forced them to leave their weapons and explosives.”
They produced another letter dated May 18, 2002, by Brigadier Prakash Menon, Commander of 68 Mountain Brigade, congratulating Purohit for exceptional bravery and gallant action killing two terrorists and recovering large quantity of war-like stores.
Purohit’s family members gave a list of medals he had received for his heroics during various operations. Purohit received the Chief of Army Staff Unit citation award in 1997. He was a part of Operation Vijay in and Operation Rakshak in Nagaland. He has also bagged the Operation Suraksha , Sainya Seva Medal, the family said.
Shivade said that Purohit has received 17 badges from the Army for his anti-terrorist operations. “One badge is awarded for killing three terrorists,” Shivade said.
Purohit’s wife said that her husband was an upright and brave Army officer. “It is sad that such a good officer has been hatched into a blast case as part of a political conspiracy,” she said.

Pune , Nov 19: The wife of arrested Lt Col S P Purohit, one of the accused in the Malegaon blasts case, says he is “absolutely innocent” and has been “framed very badly.”
“He (Purohit) has been framed very badly. And he is absolutely innocent. He has given 14 vital years of his life fighting against terrorists,” Aparna Purohit said here as her husband faced another case in Pune connection with alleged forgery in procuring a gun from military.
Aparna replied in the negative when asked if any political parties had come to help her.
“I will definitely not take help from any political party. He is not connected to any political party. He is an officer. You can’t cannot him to them,” she said.
She was of the view that a “political game” is played in her husband being made an accused.
“The way things are going on, unless and until its a political game, an officer from the Army can’t be brought suddenly and pushed off in front of ATS without any inquiry and I think all this has to be part of a political game,” she said.
Stating she had a faith in the judiciary to correct the wrong, Aparna said she knows justice will be done.
“Truth will very soon come out. Today, things have just started rolling, Now they will take a turn definitely,” she added.– – – – – – –
Neighbours give clean chit to Purohit

“We have no doubt about his patriotism and believe that he has been falsely implicated in the case,” a neighbour said on condition of anonymity. The society members are planning to brief the press on Purohit.
The society is also miffed by the frequent visits of media persons in the locality.
“We know him since childhood and he belongs to an educated and well-to-do family. Taking inspiration from Purohit, his nephew left his IT firm job of Rs 35,000 and joined the army,” he added.
A graduate from Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce College (BMCC), Purohit and his family have been living at the society since several years. He joined the force in 1995 and was trained at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai.
Having serving Maratha Battalion for a year, Purohit was posted for three years in Nagaland and seven years in Kashmir.
Currently stationed at the military intelligence unit in Madhya Pradesh at Bhopal, he was also posted in Nashik.
