The funeral of SFF company leader Nyima Tenzin, killed in a landmine blast in an operation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) during August 29-30, was held at Leh in the union territory of Ladakh. Key Points:

External affairs minister S Jaishankar will make a stopover in Tehran to meet his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif on Tuesday afternoon on his way to Russia for a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), people familiar with developments said on Monday.

Jaishankar will be the second senior Indian minister to visit Iran in less than a week, with defense minister Rajnath Singh having made a stopover in Tehran on Sunday for talks with his Iranian counterpart Brig Gen Amir Hatami that focused on bilateral cooperation and regional security issues.

  1. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, acronymed ”STEM”, have been included in the policy to make it a multidisciplinary education.
  2. Speaking at the ”Governors” virtual conference on the ”Role of NEP in Transforming Higher Education”, Mishra suggested that agriculture and computer be included in the policy, making it ”STEAM-C”, which will make higher education more employment oriented, according to a release.

  • President Ramnath Kovind asks states to organise virtual sessions to implement NEP

Key points:

  1. President Ram Nath Kovind while addressing the conference said the New Education Policy gives top priority to provide basic literacy and numeracy to all children at primary school level by the year 2025.
  2. He said, the Policy has been formulated after an unprecedented and lengthy process of consultations including over two lakh suggestions received from about 675 districts.
  3. The President asked Governors to organise theme-based virtual sessions in their States to implement the New National Education Policy.
  4. He said the feedback from these sessions can be sent to the Education Ministry for further considerations and utilisation at National level.
  5. Mr. Kovind urged States and Union Territories to fill the vacant seats of Vice Chancellors and Teachers for effective implementation of the new policy at higher education level.

  • Ram temple construction committee chairman Nripendra Mishra’s visit to Ayodhya begins today

  1. Nripendra Misra, the chairman of Ram Mandir construction committee, will visit Ayodhya on Monday to review preparations for the construction of the shrine.
  2. Misra along with the members of the Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirath Kshetra Trust will inspect the Ram Janmabhoomi campus and will meet engineers of the Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the construction company that has been awarded the contract of the project.

  1. J&K UT Govt evacuates about 4,06,528 residents stranded in other parts of country

Key points:

  1. AIR Jammu Correspondent reports that the UT administration has received 138 special trains at Jammu and Udhampur railway stations from different states and UTs with 1,21,496 passengers while about 2,85,032 persons from other states and UTs including 934 from abroad have been evacuated through Lakhanpur via road till date.
  2. Besides, about 2364 stranded passengers have entered the UT through Lakhanpur during the last 24 hours while 1053 passengers reached Jammu today in 117th Delhi COVID special train.
  3. So far, 117 trains reached Jammu with 1,05,800 stranded passengers while 15,696 passengers reached Udhampur in 21 special trains belonging to different districts of the UT.

  5. साथ ही कोविड के मामलों और इसके कारण होने वाली मौतों की बढ़ती संख्या के मद्देनजर पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री कैप्टन अमरिन्दर सिंह ने सोमवार को 60 वर्ष से कम आयु के सभी रिटायर्ड हो रहे डॉक्टरों और माहिरों को तीन महीने का विस्तार देने का ऐलान किया है।
  6. मुख्यमंत्री कैप्टन अमरिन्दर सिंह ने मुख्य सचिव को कोविड के मामलों की बढ़ रही संख्या को देखते हुए टेक्नीशियनों और लैब सहायकों की भर्ती की प्रक्रिया तेज करने के लिए भी कहा।

  1. Punjab CM on Monday said his government will give 50,000 COVID care kits free of cost to patients in hospitals and home isolation to ensure their better treatment.
  2. At kit, costing Rs 1,700 each, includes an oximeter, digital thermometer, face masks and necessary medication.
  3. A spokesperson said the specially designed kits will also include a steamer, hand sanitiser besides 60 ‘giloy’ tablets, thirty Vitamin C and four Vitamin D3 tablets.

  1. उत्तर प्रदेश की राजधानी लखनऊ में भी मेट्रो फिर से पटरी पर दौड़ने लगी है।
  2. लखनऊ मेट्रो सेवाएं आज सुबह 7 बजे से फिर से शुरू हो गई। लखनऊ मेट्रो के संचालन को लेकर स्टेशनों और ट्रेनों के अंदर व्यवस्था बदली हुई है।
  3. रेडलाइन पर सभी स्टेशनों के आधे गेट बंद हैं, केवल दो गेट से ही प्रवेश और निकासी की व्यवस्था की गई है।
  4. ट्रेन में यात्रा के लिए एक सीट छोड़कर बैठने की व्यवस्था की गई है। 
  5. यात्रा के समय यात्री को मास्क पहनना अनिवार्य है, मास्क पहनकर नहीं आने पर मेट्रो स्टेशन पर शुल्क देकर यात्री को पहले मास्क खरीदना होगा, फिर उसे एंट्री मिलेगी।

  • आईआईआईएम जम्मू ने विकसित की कोरोना की सस्ती टेस्टिंग किट, मंजूरी के लिए आईसीएमआर को भेजी

  1. कोरोना संक्रमण की जांच अब जल्दी, सटीक और पहले से मौजूद तकनीक के मुकाबले ज्यादा सस्ती होगी। इंडियन इंस्टीट्यूट आफ इंटिग्रेटिव मेडिसिन (आईआईआईएम) जम्मू ने पीसीआर तकनीक के विकल्प के तौर पर आरटी-लैंप (रिवर्स ट्रांसक्रिप्टेस-लूप मीडिएटेड आइसोथर्मल एंप्लीकेशन) टेस्ट किट विकसित की है। 
  2. मंजूरी के लिए टेस्ट किट इंडियन काउंसिल फार मेडिकल रिसर्च को भेज दी गई है। आईआईआईएम जम्मू के निदेशक डॉ. डी श्रीनिवास ने कहा कि इस तकनीक में आरटी-पीसीआर टेस्टिंग किट की तुलना में संवेदनशील मशीन की जरूरत नहीं है। इसी वजह से टेस्टिंग किट सस्ती होगी। हालांकि अभी तक इसका मूल्य तय नहीं किया गया है।

  1. DRDO successfully flight tests hypersonic technology vehicle

Key points:

  1. DRDO on Monday successfully flight tested a Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV), which is an unmanned scramjet vehicle with the ability to travel at six times the speed of sound.
  2. The test was conducted at 11.03 am from Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Launch Complex at Wheeler Island, off the coast of Odisha. 
  3. The scramjets are a variant of air breathing jet engines and have the ability to handle airflows of speeds much higher than the speed of sound. Hypersonic speeds are five times (or more) higher than the speed of sound.
  4. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, “The DRDO has, today, successfully tested the Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle using the indigenously developed scramjet propulsion system. With this success, all critical technologies are now established to progress to the next phase.”
  5. The special project of the DRDO consisted of contributions from Armament and Combat Engineering Cluster, the two facilities from Pune which played a role in the development were the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and the Research & Development Establishment (Engineers).

  1. भारत ने हाइपरसोनिक टेक्नोलॉजी डेमोन्स्ट्रेटर (एचएसटीडीवी) देश में तैयार करने में कामयाबी हासिल की है। इसे डीआरडीओ ने तैयार किया है। 
  2. इससे पहले अमेरिका, रूस और चीन भी यह तकनीक तैयार कर चुके हैं।
  3. ओडिशा के बालासोर स्थित एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम रेंज में सोमवार को इसका परीक्षण सफल रहा। 
  4. सरकारी सूत्रों के मुताबिक, भारत अब अगले पांच साल में हाइपरसोनिक मिसाइल तैयार कर सकेगा। हाइपसोनिक मिसाइलें एक सेकंड में 2 किमी तक वार कर सकती हैं। 
  5. इनकी रफ्तार ध्वनि की रफ्तार से 6 गुना ज्यादा होती है। भारत में तैयार होने वाली हाइपरसोनिक मिसाइलें देश में तैयार की गई स्क्रैमजेट प्रपुल्सन सिस्टम से लैस होंगी।

  3. The Phase-I of B2V was an introductory and interactive programme to understand the people’s grievances and demands. While Phase-II focused on the devolution of powers to panchayats and tried to understand how these panchayats are functioning and what are the grievances and demands,” he said and added “the Phase-III has been designed on the format for grievance redressal.”
  4. He said that next month will be a festival of public grievance redressal, festival of public service delivery and festival of delivery of development at gram Panchayat level.

Key points:

  1. Tamil Nadu Health Department has announced the package rates for the state government staff and pensioners to avail Covid-19 treatment in private hospitals. Its order says the beneficiaries can get themselves admitted in empanelled hospitals for the purpose.
  2. If they are allowed in un-empanelled private hospitals, the insurance agency that administers the health insurance programme will make the permissible amount only to the hospital, as mentioned in the order.
  3. In another order, hotels and restaurants are permitted to run air conditioners subject to the safety protocols.

  1. Maha CM directs officials to prioritise contact tracing to curb Covid-19 cases

Key points:

  1. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray in a review meeting with Mumbai civic body top officials directed to prioritise contact tracing and use other methods to prevent a further rise in Covid-19 cases in metropolis.
  2. Meanwhile, to prevent deaths due to corona across Maharashtra, the state health department is mulling over the expansion of its TeleICU project.
  3. Maharashtra CM Thackeray directed the city administration to increase testing and asked officials to refrain from attributing the rise in cases to the same. Thackeray also ordered buildings with more than 10 cases to be sealed.
  4. The CM urged the civic body to take measures to help boost public confidence in the BMC’s Covid care centres. He reiterated that patients above 50 years who have no comorbidities should be quarantined at home.

  • Health Ministry rushes Central teams to Punjab and Chandigarh to be stationed for 10 days

Key points:

  1. In Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has decided to deploy Central teams to Punjab and UT of Chandigarh.
  2. The high level teams will assist the State/UT in strengthening public health measures for containment, surveillance, testing and efficient clinical management of COVID patients with the aim to reduce mortality and save lives. They shall also guide the State/UT in effectively addressing the challenges related to timely diagnosis and follow up.
  3. The two-member teams will comprise of a Community Medicine expert from PGIMER, Chandigarh and an epidemiologist from NCDC. These teams shall be stationed in the State/UT for ten days to provide extended guidance in managing COVID.
  4. The States/UTs have been advised to proactively undertake comprehensive measures to break the chain of transmission of the infectious disease and lower mortality, such that it eventually dips below 1%.

Key points:

  1. These 35 districts comprise Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas and 24 South Parganas in West Bengal, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Kolhapur, Sangli, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Raigad, Jalgaon, Solapur, Satara, Palghar, Aurangabad, Dhule and Nanded in Maharashtra, Surat in Gujarat, Puducherry, East Singhbhum in Jharkhand and all 11 districts in Delhi.
  2. Mr Bhushan and State Health Secretaries also discussed the detailed roadmaps and action plans for the next one month.
  3. The States and UTs were advised to take steps on limiting the spread of the infection by implementing stringent containment measures and following social distancing measures. They have been also advised for effective monitoring of home isolation cases and early hospitalization in case of disease progression.

  1. Pakistan summons senior Indian diplomat over ‘ceasefire violations

  1. Pakistan on Sunday summoned a senior diplomat from the Indian High Commission here to register its protest over the alleged ceasefire violations by the Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC).
  2. In a statement, the Foreign Office said that due to “indiscriminate and unprovoked firing” in the Rakhchikri Sector of the LoC on Saturday, one civilian sustained serious injuries.
  3. The Indian forces along “the LoC and the Working Boundary (WB) have continuously been targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars and automatic weapons,” the statement alleged.

  1. An Army soldier was killed and two others were injured in Pakistani firing in Kupwara. An official said Pakistan resorted to “unprovoked firing and mortar shelling” along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara’s Nowgam Sector on Saturday.
  2. “Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation in Nowgam Sector by firing mortars and other weapons … One soldier laid down his life in the line of duty. Two soldiers sustained injuries and have been evacuated to 92 Base Hospital. Their condition is stable,” the Srinagar-based Army spokesman said. The deceased soldier was identified as gunner Bupinder Singh.
